X-men Origins: Wolverine

What I loved most: Learnt the origin of Wolverine

What I really hated: Not enough actions; not that there are too little

Wolverine. One of my favourite superheroes. I like him because of his self-healing powers, and of course, shrinng! Shrinng! Shrinnng! His claws. Like all other superhero movies, I tend to walk out of the cinema reluctantly, wishing for more, and this one is no different. I just feel that there should be more actions in superhero movies; but don't get me wrong, there are still lots of action sequences. Maybe good old Stephen Spielberg should direct one; then I would bite my nails off. Fans of Wolverine should love this. So would fans of Marvel comics. For me, at last I understand how Wolverine became what he is; don't know if they've explained it in the comics because I've stopped reading some ten years ago. And there are the other cool mutants too, especially Zero. Now I can't wait for Spiderman 4 next year.

17 Again

What I loved most: Surprisingly funny

What I really hated: as predictable as having popcorns in a movie

As I made my way to the cinema with my teenage daughter, I guessed a movie like that was only for fans of Zac Efron since the plot is being overdone many times. So I didn't expect this to be a great movie, and it isn't. But surprisingly, it's still funny. I did chuckle a lot during the movie, more than when I watched Pink Panther 2. I guess school life, parent-teen relationship, and boy-girl relationship are something most of us could relate. Fans of Efron should certainly enjoy this movie. Non-fans should enjoy it too, since it's still quite entertaining. Never mind the bad acting, the bad story. Just enjoy the jokes. As a guy who is older than Matthew Perry, I still enjoy the movie. My daughter certainly enjoyed it. So if you are around 17, or like me, feel like 17, you'll enjoy it.

The Sniper

What I loved most: Special Effects of bullet flying

What I really hated: Everything else

I'm not a fan of HK or Chinese movies although I enjoyed Red Cliff and Infernal Affairs. Thus, I didn't expect much from this movie. Why do I want to watch it then? I'm a fan of Edison - no, I'm not queer, I love his Initial D and Infernal Affairs. And I'm a great fan of sniper movies, especially the Hollywood's Enemy At The Gates. But despite the low expectations, this movie disappoints me. Edison is almost non-existent. Pretty actresses are also non existent to at least give me something to comment about. Story is slow and dreadful. They should at least get some technical advice from professional marksmen on how the weapons should be handled. Only thing I like about this movie is the path of the bullet that spins through the air towards the target. Well, this Sniper is not up to his mark.

Knowing

What I loved most: the idea of the numbers

What I really hated: people talking loudly behind

Ah, such mysteries always fascinate me. Being an X Files fan, I just need to know what Knowing is about. And the tension that slowly bulids up...the director did a great job. I love some of those sequences. Makes my heart almost thump out of my chest. You may or may not like the ending. I don't. But I can't see any other satisfying alternatives. Like many other movies, the pace slows down once the mystery is revealed. But you won't fall asleep though. Fans of suspense and mystery would love this movie. Good direction. Good effects when needed.

Slumdog Millionaire

What I loved most: Way the story is told

What I really hated: A bit unreal

Out of curiosity, and from friends' recommendations, I watched it. Well, expecting a slow movie like most mulit-Oscar winners, I was surprised. I like the way the story is told, and that makes this movie pretty fast moving. Would be a great show for the kids too, and I wonder why the NC16 rating. My daughter, 14, complained that she could not watch it. And I think a PG rating would be more appropiate. It's fun. It's thrilling. It's funny. It's enchanting. I strongly recommend it.

Watchmen

What I loved most: Superheroes

What I really hated: Same old plot

I'm a huge superhero fan, and thus, I enjoy this movie. Otherwise, it's just another crime thriller in a superhero setting. Watching the old superheroes make me feel young, and almost powerful again (yep, I'm not young anymore). Although it has the same old plot, the action sequences are still gripping enough. I wish there were more actions, not that there aren't enough. Great costumes, great sounds, good camera angles. Fans of comics should love this. Don't know about the others.
