Words cannot describe the joys and emotions that this animation brings out during the absolutely delightful adventure of an old man, boy, bird & dog. In fact, some scenes do not require words and can still effectively touch you. With just simple piano accompaniment along with the visuals, many in the audience were moved. The messages in the film are not new but weaved into this adventure makes one stop and relook at the issues presented in such a simple and colourful way. From the funny lines, to the innocence of a child, the hilarious talking dog, beautiful floating house and the colourful bird, UP is a wonderful film for everyone, kids and adults.
It was WOW from the get go. The chase scenes, the fight scenes, the battle scenes...you get the drift. It is true that the plot looks a little out from a cartoon but that is what the movie is based on isn't it? The CGI was only slightly lacking compared to Transformers but does not spoil the movie. It is the basic-good-saves-the-world-from-evil story but this time the film tries to explain a little of some of the characters in the film (which I appreciate). There are some surprises here and there including the plot twist, camoes appearing and even soundtrack. The story was neatly packed and energy level was up throughout the movie. Very enjoyable to sit through. Don't think it is a total guy show but would say more guys than gals will enjoy this one. One of the better blockbusters this summer, must watch!
A group of friends get together to have a friend's bachelor party gets awry with disatorously hilarious results. Will not provide any spoilers as to what happened the night they were "too stoned to remember anything" when the potential groom goes missing the night before his wedding. The story is like Memento but with slapstick and crude humour. Alan, one of the friends, the bearded one, literally stole the show as the dim-witted friend with his antics and mannerisms. Watch out for special appearances by Mike Tyson and Heather Graham who have bit parts in the movie. Hangover's like a grown-up road trip but much more enjoyable as time passes too quickly while watching the movie. 4 stars for each of the leading men for making it such a well-balanced and believeable performance that at the end you feel like they are your own friends. Also the highlight of the movie where they show shots at the end on the actual happenings of that night. Not too be missed!
The man can play ball(She's the One), dance (Step Up) and now he is into street brawls and soon he can be seen as the lead of upcoming GI Joe where he is part of an elite team of soldiers. It seems Channing Tatum's star is beginning to shine a little brighter these days. An ex-model, he brings to Fighting an authentic Brooklyn bad-ass hoodlum with a kind soul as he finds his way into the fight scene with the help of Terence Howard (last seen in Iron Man). With such a movie title, I can't help but feel that there were not enough fighting!
Also Channing's performace is turning out to be quite stagnant and if he continues to rely on his good looks may soon find himself short of roles to play in future. The story also does not explain in detail the fallout between the main character and his dad and how he ended in such a sorry state. Some funny and heartwarming scenes. Fighting is Fight Club without the glammed-up fight scenes.
Big names and strong cast but fails to bring out the story of Dillinger, a notorious bank robber in the 1930s. Most of the characters portrayed felt so 2-dimensional, with a small execption to Johnny Depp. It was like a bank robbery after another but with no finesse and little planning but somehow they still manage to escape the clutches of the law enforcers. Maybe as the story was set in the 30s, I found it hard to relate to it. However, the relationship between Dillinger and his girl tried to add some emotional quotient into the movie.
I am writing this from the viewpoint of a person who has not read the book and I was not as disappointed like many others as I have read several unfavourable reviews before catching the show. Admittedly, there was less action but felt that it was not as horrible as many reviewed. The show does focus more on the emotional interactions between characters than the big picture of Voldermort. Unfortunately it was nearing the tail end of the film when the movie turns its focus back to Voldermort and the Deatheaters. Quite a few loose ends in the movies. The audience liked it cos they kept laughing (even at some small jokes). However, I did enjoy the visuals very much and anticipate the adventure that Potter, Weasley and Hermonie will embark on in the next 2 instalments.
