Up In The Air

Up in the Air is a movie about a lot of things: 1. A story of a man whose life is up in the air. And he has to do whatever it takes to be exempted from being grounded. 2. A story of a man getting ready to make a connection. 3. A story of a man tightening his connection back with his family. 4. A story of a young woman who learns the ethic of letting go people from their jobs. 5. A story of a young woman who learns technology isn't the best ways to solve problems. 6. A story of a young woman who learns that only the sky is the limit to achieve her dream. 7. A story of a young woman who learns no one should stop her from getting what she wants. 8. A story of a woman who uses a man as her escape from her family. 9. A story of people with complex relationship. 10. A story about the complexity of being surrounded by people you know not very well and very well. 11. A story of the tears and pain of the economic downturn in USA. 12. A story about 'what is the right philosophy of life'? And many more. I've seen a lot of movies that attempted to tell so many things at once, but failed. Up in the Air is an exception. Beautifully crafted and written, emotionally acted and highly entertaining. Up in the Air is without doubt one of the best movies produced in 2009. George Clooney, as always, charms on his own way as a man who sticks to his very philosophy of living. Vera Farmiga, after her breakthrough in the movie 'Orphan', finally ables to show the world that she's the next A-list star. But my kudos go to Anna Kendrick. As a girl who played the super-annoying Jessica in The Twilight Saga, Anna Kendrick is able to steal everyone's attention in this movie, giving her an ultimate gift: an Oscar nomination. So there you go. Up in the Air. Very well-crafted and entertaining, as well as emotionally binding. I'd strongly recommend you watching this!

Alice In Wonderland

Alice in Wonderland is, unfortunately, a major disappointment. The movie sacrifices a lot of the true beauty and the originality of the book, as well as the artistry. Alice in Wonderland can be summed up as a 21st century epic-war feature that has Lewis Carroll's characters in it. There's nothing to be excited about in the plotline. It starts with a boring introduction, with some cliche, childish lines that are a bit out-of-date, thus making me expecting more from the Wonderland's part of the movie. Things go even more horrible when apparently the Wonderland in this movie is pretty much very messy. This is the adult version of Alice in Wonderland, where everything turns out to be very violent and not as enchanting as it used to be in the 1950's Alice in Wonderland, also created by Disney. And seriously, from the trailer, I thought this movie would be Tim Burton's best movie. Turns out it's not. It's too average. Pretty much, everything is so mixed up in the plot development. Intro, arising problems and climax battle -- I found the battle pointless, just like Roger Ebert said, but it's very epic. Don't get me wrong though. Alice in Wonderland is visually breath-taking and enchanting. I can even say that the visual is better than Avatar. The images you see in this movie are simply some of the most amazing ones that you'd have ever seen. Ranging from the magical creatures of the Wonderland to the smallest details of beauty, such as the buttered fingers, the visual is something that everyone would talk about. The casting for the movie is very strong, joining high-class Hollywood actors with the UK-native top celebrities. Too bad... if only the writing for this movie is better, it would've been a superb movie. In the end, I would give this movie a 3.5, just because I think the visual of the movie is one of the best I've ever seen in my life. And the characterization of the characters are so original, it would become the base of the future generations in appreciating Lewis Carroll's work.

From Paris With Love

WOW, talk about one action movie that finally takes my guard off while I'm watching it. First, I though this movie will be another typical action movie: bad storyline, over-the-top performance, all about BOOM BOOM and CRASH CRASH and the list goes on. From Paris With Love has all of the superb action stunts, shooting scenes, as well as the over-the-top performance (especially by John Travolta). But what I love from this film is the charisma of Jonathan Rhys Meyers as the secondary main character of this movie. The plot line is also quite smart for an action movie. Mixed with the plausible action scenes, From Paris With Love will make you feel the true intensity and adrenaline of this feature. Oh and of course, probably it's the ending, a very unusual ending that makes me respect this movie and gave this movie a 4-star rating. It's exciting, fun and most importantly entertaining to watch. Don't miss it!

Dear John

All right, then. Let me say this straight away: Dear John sucks. Meant as a serious romantic-drama film, Dear John is extremely cheesy, using that pick-up lines that are very often used in other similar films, for example, "Tell me what should I do," or, "I promise," and even, "I love you, I love you, I love you,". Nicholas Sparks would be very disappointed with this adaptation for sure. Probably the only thing that would let people love this film is the sweetness of Channing Tatum's & Amanda Seyfried's collaboration. But still... I mean, Dear John is way beyond the cheesy borderline. I couldn't say much more about this movie. It's so cliche. And in the end, the only thing the audience will learn is this: a full moon is never bigger than your thumb, wherever you are in this world (this doesn't apply in tropical countries, though, 'cause moon is always smaller than the little fingers in tropical countries).

Wolfman

Benicio del Toro = super awesome as the main character. Anthony Hopkins = that psycho feeling you get from him as the main antagonist of the movie. Emily Blunt = charming as always. Hugo Weaving = not that much of a performance, right? I must say the cast ensemble isn't very impressive. But that's not the main problem. Despite the fact that the movie has an excellent start and commendable production designs, The Wolfman fails in delivering goosebumps and horror to its audience. And the climax in the end of the movie basically just makes the whole audience goes like, "What the hell?" due to its cheesiness. The Wolfman ends up being a movie that attempts to bring back the classic factor of a werewolf movie but unfortunately fails. I love the visual in the movie though. I think the visual treat is the only thing that makes me rated this movie 3 out of 5.

The Imaginarium Of Dr Parnassus

Talk about visual orgy, this movie has that factor for sure. But other than that, this movie feels like a draggy adventure who relies fully on its star-studded cast, which includes Heath Ledger, Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell. Too bad Terry Gilliam. I just don't feel the 'connection' between myself and the movie. Probably, next time?
