I love love love love this movie. This movie is one of the most inspiring movies to me, with a wonderful and distinct theme of how we overcome the guilt in our past. The songs are fantastic. All appropriate and sometimes even humourous. They have brought out the touching scenes very well, something that if often lacking in many of the cartoons nowadays, possible because of the obsession with injecting that extra bit of humour into the whole plot.
Another Disney and Pixar success! I was amazed by the facial expressions. They were very very good and entertaining. Fantastic animation. The storyline was humorous and with a good blend of meaning mixed throughout. My only critic is that, as with many cartoons, they tend not to have that distinct bell shape curve in the excitement buildup. More like a series of curves if you know what I mean. In any case, I can live with it and would recommend this movie to any child or adult.
This whole movie started fine and was even a tad amusing now and then. I wouldn't laugh my head off but it still brings about some snickers now and then. Towards the end it seemed that the producers/ directors didn't know how to end it and decided to give it a twist. Such twists are fabulous for short stories but not novels. Movies are considered novels and no one wants to watch a show with such an ending. You can watch it if you have loads of time to kill.
What I loved most: Great supporting acting crew and smooth flow of movie
What I really hated: Unimpressive lead character
Despite the overall 3 stars given for this movie, I would still give it a 4. The flow of the movie is amazingly smooth, with different scenes fitting with each other perfectly. The theme of the movie was about a boy growing up. Even though at the start it was brought up in a rather cheesy manner, eventually it was still done elegantly, in thoughtful manner. I expected more of Neil Gaieman's lyrical scripting in the movie. Though it fell short of my expectations there was some degree of beauty in the words now and then. I'm sure the movie would have been better if Gaieman had put in more of his works. I was very happy to see Michelle Pheiffer acting as the witch and De Niro as the pirate. They are a wonderful fit for their roles. Claire Danes was such a sweet star as well and I wouldn't have traded her for Sarah Michelle Gellar (who had previously rejected the lead role). The evil prince had such an appropriately heartless look too. Haha. My only other complaint was that the male lead character was a bit of a disappointment. I imagine that Leonardo Dicaprio would have done a better job, putting in a bit more crankiness now and then. That might have bursted the movie budget though. An overall well-filmed fantasy show which I would recommend.
What I really hated: Annoying Princess at the start
Enchanted is a movie worth watching and I recommend it to kids and adults alike. It appeals to the simple humor that children are able to delight themselves in, and also appeals to spoofs that adults often find themselves amused with.
It appears that Disney is poking fun at it's own fantasy realm. However, this is not done too overtly and provides a good balance to the unrealistic dreamworld that critics have complained about in the past.
Our dear Princess was rather annoying at the start. Her character resembles the lead from Legally Blonde, and indeed carries much bimbotic-ness in her countenance. However, as the story proceeds, she grew to be more lovable and her scream was a tad more endearing, if I may put it that way.
Our dear male lead didn't have much character in the show. He did however, had those wonderfully dreamy look of longing in his eyes, which is rather appealing. I would say that it makes up for the lack of depth in his character portrayal as a whole.
All the other leaves in the show complement our lead roses wonderfully well. I think it is rather difficult to incorporate Disney magic into the real world beyond the sewage can and Disney has been able to pull in of in a splendid and humorous manner.
The perfect show for a good light hearted time of laughter that all busy Singaporeans need from time to time. The theme was not bad too. It doesn't provide one with the magical secrets to a successful dating relationship, but suggests that we strike a balance. And that's just fine.
