Zombi Kampung Pisang

What I loved most: It's originality

What I really hated: Nothing

It is by far the best and most original Malay movie that I've seen for a long time. I've never been a fan of Malay movies save those directed and starred by P. Ramlee or Nordin Ahmad. The rest of them are predictable with no originality. The story lines are always the same-boy meets girl, girl rejects boy etc etc. The comedies are tragically unfunny and in most cases, they demean women. Out of the blue, came Zombie Kampung Pisang directed by Mamat Khalid. It is witty, clever and silly at the same time--but it is never stupid. It never tried to be more than it is - a satire of life in a Malay kampong in Malaysia with a dash of zombies to spice things up. You need to watch this movie a few times because there will be many jokes that you'd miss at first viewing. I should know because Ive watched it four times and I 've found something new to laugh at each time. This movie is hilarious. It reminds me of the many SNL sketches in the eighties and movie spoofs by Mel Brookes.
