What I really hated: Same old indestructable (almost) hero
Here we go again...clash of civilizations...about how a small band of 300 certain group of "good" guys showed what their small number can inflict on the really "bad" guys with a number of about 1million personnel (can any nation really muster that many soldiers..ok maybe North Korea). Imagine if the "good" guys had 3000 men, the battle would be over in 1 hour. Other than the graphics, all movies about any western nation vs any guys from the rest of the world is predictable. We know who the winners would be, and who the villains are. Honestly, the only thing that attracts me to this movie is the graphics. From some of the account that I read somewhere, Xerxes' mistake was that he underestimated the Spartans, much like how the US underestimated the Vietcongs (one of it was the Spartans used smaller warships that outmoneuvered the Persian, made it easy for the Spartan to inflict heavy damage on the supplies of the huge army). He thought that invading the tiny city states would be a walk in the park (sounds familiar till today). Whatever it is, I'd say not much glory in here.....just another movie with good graphics
I have always been a fan of ancient dramas/movies....lots of mistakes to learn from. May not be correct historically but imagine that huge Tang army faced-off with the Roman Legion.....western civilization may never had existed. generally I'd say it's a good watch but lacks the kind of "oomph" that keeps you on the edge (cant help comparing this to Lord of the Rings)...but it's much, much better than Troy though..excellent effort..wish the script had more twist and turn. By the way, i like Gong Li but she's a bit too young to be the empress....Michelle Yeoh would had been better
