The Curse Of The Golden Flower

Once again, the power of having a good poster is shown in this film. While the poster might have looked impressive (with all that golden shine) and boast a formidable cast of Chow Yun Fat and Gong Li, this film is just not shiny enough in terms of quality. A weak and confusing storyline is the biggest drawback as half the time, i was questioning rather than understanding. The fighting scenes were also a big disappointment, they weren't as well executed as expected but were rather sloppy. The veteran actors did a fine job but then again, the likes of Jay Chou just pulls down the film's quality. In short, this film is just too mediocre to be compared to others like 'Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" but definitely surpasses "The Banquet". Even if that is not appealing enough, watch it simply for Chow Yun Fat and Gong Li.

Mr. Bean's Holiday

This isn't the best of Mr Bean we have seen so far. This film is long winded and draggy with too many inconsequential bits that serves little purpose in heightening the comical feel of the show. Atkinson reprises his role of Mr Bean with little success this time round; he seem to have lost touch with his usual sense of silliness and wasn't able to connect with the audiences effectively enough. The two stars was given for two reasons: France is beautiful enough and the one scene of Atkinson mouthing a sad opera song for money (which really made me laugh a lot). Othe than that, this movie doesn't really have much redeeming qualities.

Blood And Chocolate

A great looking poster, intriguing trailer and an idealistic concept (of the werewolf) can't save much grace for this distasteful film. It is bad enough that the director uses fairy unknown actors for the main cast who do not perform well at all, the visuals were terrible and even silly. So much for all that prophecy talk and love between a werewolf and a man, this film is forgettable and missable.

Meet The Robinsons

I wasn't expecting much from this show actually and was prepared to doze off somewhere in the middle of the show. The start of the show was pretty interesting as we see the main character being introduced. However, as the movie progresses on, it starts to turn rather dry and cliched and even boring as steroetypical characters and roles starts to come up. The action scenes (i.e the dinosaur and time travel machine), were not very well executed and i just cringed at the absolutely cliched lines. Till the end of the movie, thats where things starts to pick up a little. The resolution to the entire film has a good twist to it and leaves an incredible poignant and warm feeling to the film. If you are searching for similar animations, "The Incredibles" would be a better option as this film is just mediocre and not striking enough.

Nada Sou Sou

I was a big fan of "Be with you" and so this film sort of excited me as after a brilliant film, you just want to see what else can the director come up with. And we got a story of the love relationship between two step siblings. Fair enough, such storylines do contain a certain drawing power to move people and i admit that in some scenes, i was indeed moved. But somehow, the feeling seems to be restrained and not fully given to the audiences which result in an unsatisfactory feeling. The film was delivered gently and fluently, bit by bit, without rushing through and this gives ample opportunities for character development. True enough, the two leads do portray their characters well and are extremely likeable charcters. The love between them is very subtle, which i enjoy and like very much. But at the end of the film, i can't help but feel that something is missing and there is a sense of uncompleteness.

Conversations With Other Women

This film lies traces of the director's other film "Before Sunset". It is so seemingly alike that i almost imagine myself seeing Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy on screen. But then again, this film differs from the other due to the more sexually charged and fiesty script. The two leads do possess a certain amount of chemistry between then that is well liked and an enjoyment to watch on screen. Perhaps due to my slightly younger age, the idea of past love and remorse didn't really hit me too hard and left little impact on my reaction towards this film. Nevertheless, credit goes to that brilliant script that keeps a fair balance of light hearted and serious moments and of course, the splendid performances put up by the lead roles.
