Tan outdone himself yet again with this masterpiece that could well become a milestone in the local film industry. Esctatically filled with bright lightings and colours against the backdrop of the glittering getai, this film easily provides the entertainment factor. Tan poweress lies in how he fuses very poignant sentiments into such a glittering backdrop. Liu is a comic relief and does her character justice. Yeo's and Ong's performance were exceptionally powerful in delivering the message of love and friendship. Getai has never looked and felt so good.

Secret

Chou's directorial debut does not disappoint the obvious crowds in the cinema theatre. He gave a very convinving (not say charming) portrayal of his own characters and so does the female lead. What is nice about this entire film is the sense of simplicity that prevails throughout the film. There are no over "dramaticised" moments, just poignantly aching sentiments as the plot unravels. Chou has a good sense of the characters in the film and explores them well enough to give the film depth. Watch it not only for Chou's screen presence, but for the poignant sentiments of first love.

Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix

The book was fantastic but the movie was anything but good. Many scenes that i was looking forward to were cut and the script was very bland. The dramatic action in the film was not intense and electrifying enough as compared to the previous films. The acting left much to be desired; the thespians did an incredibly fine job int he delivery of the characters but the younger actors were too stiff and plain to add sparks to the film. The older actors could have had more screen time to make this film better and more could have been shown on Voldermort's Army. This is the worst of the five in the series so far. Very disappointing.

Hooked On You

This film is light hearted and well paced in the sequence of events leading up to the final scene. The director does a good job in capturing the feel of nostalgia for the olden days, before the entire city metamorphosizes into a cosmopolitan city. The film zooms in and explores the typical commoners you and i see daily on the streets and the director also does a good job in presenting the various helpless situations we face, in this ever changing world. Miriam Yeung and Eason Chen does a fair job in their portaryal of the lead characters, with special mention to Yeung, who successfully played her character with subtle expressions and nuances in between scenes. This film is extremely nostalgic and poignant as it focuses on the reminiscence of the past (which makes for a potentially great film), but all this couldn't make up for this film's failed attempt to touch the audiences' hearts.

13: Game Of Death

This film has just the right blend of tastes that makes it an incredible watch. The storyline, as flimsy as it looks and sounds, actually creates the atmosphere of excitmement and suspense. The film manages to interweaves the fun and horrifying aspects of the film to come up with an extremely enjoyable watch. As compared to other hooror films like Hostel, 13 is considered pretty light in the horrifying bits. Watch it simple for the excitmement of it.

Transformers

In the summer crop of blockbuster movies, transformers fared much worse than the other films released in the same period. A weak and crippling storyline pulls down the quality of the film by a notch. Adding on to that, the lead actors are just not as well performing as expected. No doubt that the robots and machines look incredibly awesome and realistic, i can't help but feel that this film is too rusty and has too many loose ends to tie up.
