Cinema Online's Review Back to top

"Undiscovered" is a light-hearted, 'feel good' movie that is suitable for those who want to escape into a romantic-fantasy world filled with cool people - and those who just want to watch an entertaining movie.

It is about an aspiring model who falls in love (at first sight) with a struggling musician when their paths cross on a NY subway train. After that, they never saw each other again for years. Having achieved success as a model, Brier (James) decides to move to L.A. to start an acting career. With the support of her agent and sometimes surrogate mother, Carrie (Fisher), Brier lands a spot in an acting class.

There she befriends Clea (Simpson) who is juggling her time between acting and singing. While on a night out of town discovering the music scene, Brier again meets Luke (Strait) who has been struggling for years to get a record deal. Brier and Clea decide to help Luke and unknown to him, they set out to make him noticed by the record agents.

Some people may not like this movie because of Ashlee and also because the plot is nothing out of this world. However, this movie isn't bad. It has a cute, witty, creative plot, great setting and the story is quite realistic. The script is just fantastic and it gets you thinking about fame and popularity.

"Fame is hard to handle, fame changes you," is the underlying theme of the film. The movie mixes fact with fiction fluidly making the plot sensible and interesting. You will realised from this movie (and in actual life) that "Fame really changes you".

The acting is not bad at all. Character development is well balanced. I think the cast is rather talented and I was pleasantly surprised by Simpson's acting. She seems completely comfortable with her character and gives Clea a bright personality (and decency too), unlike her sister, Jessica.

Although, the movie is rather predictable, overall, it is entertaining and funny. Catch this movie and find out what happens when Luke and Brier can't hide that spark that's always there, and how they both discover that the price of fame may be higher than expected.
