Kate Beckinsale returns to her lead role as the vampire warrior Selene, who escapes imprisonment to find herself in a world where humans have discovered the existence of both Vampire and Lycan clans and are conducting an all-out war to exterminate both immortal species.
What I loved most: Kate Beckinsale, who else!
What I really hated: Some cheesy visual effects
I have one thing to say before I start the review of the latest Underworld movie. Kate Beckinsale IS smoking hot! And she is the REAL reason why we give a damn about this superficially simple middle of the road horror cum action series. She is the lynchpin, the way Milla Jovovich and Sigourney Weaver are to the Resident Evil and by far superior, Alien series respectively. Once again, packed with some really cool action sequences courtesy of superbabe Kate and another super simple plot, this time set 12 years after the 2nd episode where Selene suddenly wakes up from cryogenic sleep, finds out she has a daughter! (but trust me, it's not that complicated la) and goes all out to save her progeny from the bad guys, this time, both humans and lycans. The action comes fast and furious, barely letting you catch your breath. However, like always with this series, other than magnificent Kate, the movie suffers from the usual stock characters and cardboard villains. However there is a slightly neat twist involving the villain and at the very end of the movie where it zigs into the predictable stock of the trade cliffhanger. Yeah, there will be a inevitable fifthquel but hey, it's Kate in a tight latex suit, so yeah, I'll still be lining up for it! ;-)
