Are you watching closely?

Just finished watching this movie and trust me, it'll be as close to a modern day masterpiece as any show you'll ever see. The Prestige is story-telling at it's finest, equally adept at both showing and telling, a tribute to fine acting as well as directing. The story is passionately unraveled and yet guarded, the way a magician hooks you with his build-up, shows you the trick but never tells you the secret. Second after second the movie leaves you eagerly waiting for more, more clues to the story, more pieces to the puzzle, but never revealing the whole picture. Finally, with a great twist at the end, every jigsaw piece, every hint dropped through the excellent dialogue and acting is finally pieced together and what you get is a well-told, layered masterpiece. Christopher Nolan is indeed proving to be one of the most gifted directors of our time. A must watch.

A Movie Full of Deceits

What I loved most: Twists

Similiar to the illusionist[whats with magic related movies and twists] there are no shortage of twists in the movie itself. It won't be a waste of your ticket money but don't expect any magic secrets revealed. The ending is truly un-expected. Now i can't go on without spoiling the movie.

The illusionists' Rat Race

What I loved most: A display of the storywriter's great imagination

What I really hated: unrealistic? but it's only a movie!!!

Say how far would you go to dig out secrets that should never be known to you? What would you do if you know who stole secrets? 2 magicians or should I say, illusionists, fought with each all their lives to be the prodigy of their times. Amazing scientific research and discoveries were made during their quest to be the best. They are familiar with each other's progress and tried all kinds of ways to kick the other party out of the trade, underhand tricks and life-threatening sabotages included. Welcome to the dark side of the world of magical elites.

Interesting but flawed movie.

What I loved most: Great acting and directing.

What I really hated: The silly twist near the end.

The prestige begins by explaining to the viewer the three acts of a magic trick. So the viewer expects to see something clever at the end, a simple logical trick for the whole movie that sounds plausible. Instead, the movie does this bizarre science fiction twist near the end that just ruins the whole story. Also, there are two antagonists in the movie and no real hero to root for. Such a shame since the movie was well made.
