'The Departed' is set in South Boston, where the state police force is waging war on organized crime. Young undercover cop Billy Costigan (Leonardo DiCaprio) is assigned to infiltrate the mob syndicate run by gangland chief Costello (Jack Nicholson). While Billy is quickly gaining Costello's confidence, Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon), a hardened young criminal who has infiltrated the police department as an informer for the syndicate, is rising to a position of power in the Special Investigation Unit.
The Infernal Affairs was a better movie. The interactions between the psychologist, the cop and undercover fell short. The plot was familiar because I had watched the HK movie, thus the betrayals were expected.

Maybe it was the expectations on the standards set by Hong Kong's Infernal Affairs. I had great expectations of the movies, but it fell just short of it. It's a great movie. Just not as good as I had hoped. If I had not watched Infernal Affairs before, I might had rated it higher.

What I really hated: The sloooowww start
I couldn't help but compare this to the original Hong Kong version. Was so-and-so going to say exactly that? How would they make the two moles convince their respective 'bosses'? And so on. I couldn't help but compare this to the original Hong Kong version. Was so-and-so going to say exactly that? How would they make the two moles convince their respective 'bosses'? And so on. This wasn't helped by the fact that Scorsese decided to spend a good hour of the start creating a dreadfully plodding backgrounder for the two protagonists. Thank goodness things started picking up after the first hour though and there were at least a couple of good scenes that made up for the start. I was quite impressed by the entire casts' acting. Somehow, they managed to spew an incredible amount of cusswords in the dialog without making it look too over the top. I think Mark Wahlberg and Martin Sheen both deserve awards for their roles!

What I loved most: The story and acting!
What I really hated: rats!
What can I say, this movie is not only packed with a roster of wonderful actors but a great story as well! It's an action-packed movie that keeps you in suspense scene after scene. Not only is it full of action, but thought-provoking as well, exploring the consequences of lies, deceit, double crossers, etc. I like everything about it especially the way the movie ended. Nice work by M.S.!

What I really hated: blood all around
This movie will not fail to keep you at the edge of your seat the moment the film begins to roll. It has enough suspense going on, and you keep rooting for the good guy s victory, or at least have justice at the end. Cheers to hollywood for not formulating a cliche for an ending. Brilliant! You just have to watch it!
