Remake of the 1973 horror of the same name. As a mysterious toxin begins to turn the residents of Ogden Marsh, Iowa into violent psychopaths, sheriff David Dutton (Timothy Olyphant) tries to make sense of the situation while he, his wife (Radha Mitchell) and two other unaffected townspeople band together in a fight for survival.
The old and tested plot - biological weapon on felled plane that contaminated water leading to the change of townsfolk into psychotic killers - is not the attraction here but rather the ways in which the struggling survivors try to evade capture or get shot at by the authorities who swop in the eradicate the infected by shooting first and asking questions later as well trying to survive with the crazies going after their blood. There were several (maybe a little too many) moments in the movie that made me squirm in my seat so if you are looking for a good scare, can try watching the crazies. The most memorable would be the car wash scene where the survivors were attacked and someone got killed and having their only means of transport blasted from the skies. It was so depressing as one knows there will never be a happy ending in such movies. Without A-list celebrity in it, the Crazies seem to be heading to DVD-land and strictly for gore/horror fans only.
