What I loved most: Funny, intriguing characters, rich scenes and cinematography. Great direction.

A highly entertaining and yet thought provoking film. Great story telling by the director and clever script. Lots of twists and turns including that of your response as an audience - laughing, to being moved to being horrified. It is much more than a murder mystery. It is about all our families! Makes me proud to see such a high quality film from Singapore.

A worthy singapore movie worth catching

What I loved most: Style, art direction, mystifying quality, occasional funny moments

What I really hated: Boring title which fails to capture the attention of casual movie-goers

I wasn't sure what to expect when I walked up to my cinema seat to watch this movie. Honestly, it seemed like a perfect waste of 107 minutes of my life when my girlfriend pulled me at the 11th hour to catch it. I am so glad I was wrong. This movie, despite it's unassuming title, is truly a gem waiting to be uncovered and appreciated. The story finds itself interwined into the darkest secrets within the patriarch's family and slowly reveals the truth behind the rich-family facade. Points go out to the mystifying quality that lingers on even after the movie ends. The director and his crew did a good job of setting the movie's pace while captivating the audience with each unfolding mystery with artful style. The local actors here are brilliant in portraying the characters fully. The occasional drops of comedy and laughter makes it all the more enjoyable. Overall, I was surprised, pleasantly. It's worth checking out definitely.

What I loved most: Plot and cast

Finally, some great movie from the local movie industry and not the usual sarcastic comedy dominated by the Liang family. Despite the un-catching movie title, its plot and the supporting casts more than makes up for this little disadvantage. As the movie slowly unwraps itself, the audience are treated to several darkest secrets that each member in the family holds behind the wealthy facade. How did the tycoon die? The movie presents to the audience several options which are all highly possible, and the answer (a surprise) will be reveal at the very end. Through suspense intermix with a few span of comedy, I must say the director has done a very good job. If only the local industry can produce more movies that are of this quality.

What I loved most: so unpredictable

What I really hated: a bit lame

this movie is a guarentedd nice movie and definetly worth of ur money. serious. guys , u will have a pleasant surprise there! . and for the rest this movie is unlike some yucky jack neo movie which totally doesnt worth ur money. this is wad i call good quality movie. and yes! singapore have hope alrdy!

"The Blue Mansion" is a quirky murder mystery about the death of a wealthy tycoon of a pineapple tart business named Wee Bak Chuan. Deemed as the Donald Trump of Asia, he later returns as a ghost to uncover the truth behind his untimely death together with the help of his late daughter-in-law (Emma Yong), his family members and the police. Directed by Glen Goei, the film is shot with a noir feel and bears a stylish setting within a mansion fully equipped with beautiful antic furniture.

As the film opens up, we get to know more about Bak Chuan, outstandingly played by Patrick Teoh, as an overbearing authoritative figure who imposes himself on his children, forcing them to make personal sacrifices for the sake of the family legacy. His death brings tension to his two sons, Teck Liang (Lim Kay Siu), the eldest who doesn't know if he should take over the business, and Teck Meng (Adrian Pang), a hot-tempered man who strives to be the company's next CEO. Meanwhile, the daughter Pei Shan (Neo Swee Lin) is somewhat relieved over her father's death as he has often been unsupportive of her choice of men.

The family drama unfolds as the story progresses, revealing some interesting bits and pieces (sexual affairs, interracial relationships and even homosexuality) of their social lives. The twist to the story gets pretty bloody at the end and it even catches a glimpse of Emma Yong's naked body, who wears a wedding gown throughout the movie for reasons unknown.

Unravelling a murder mystery with jokes in between, the movie is well executed and clear cut. Even the language is articulate (proper Queen's English is used and not the typical Singlish) but this may have backfired if you look at how some actors may have made it too theatrical, like Adrian Pang.

Audiences will find comedy in the outcome of Bak Chuan's wrath, a police detective's strong Indian accent, his assistant's goofiness, four big-haired gossiping sisters and other wise-crack jokes by miscellaneous characters. The only downside to this movie is that Bak Chuan's spirit is an irritating character to bear with, yelling and snapping in between other people's sentences. Overall, "The Blue Mansion" is a well narrated film of an interesting family drama with a good dose of wit.
