U.S. Marine Sergeant Logan Thibault (Efron) returns from his third tour of duty in Iraq, with the one thing he credits with keeping him alive-a photograph he found of a woman he doesn't even know. Learning her name is Beth (Schilling) and where she lives, he shows up at her door, and ends up taking a job at her family-run local kennel. Despite her initial mistrust and the complications in her life, a romance develops between them, giving Logan hope that Beth could be much more than his good luck charm.

The Lucky One is one unabashed romantic drama which despite ze obvious and very preditable storyline SOMEHOW seem to get all the elements of a true love story right! It's really strange because despite the cliched threadbare plot, all the pre-requisite elements of a true romance are just there as it should be...the gentle dreamy music, the soft focus art direction catching the lighting just right, the adorable kid, the feisty damsel and lastly not forgetting the strong silent-type hunky stranger! It does not apologise for its saccharine sentimentality and the movie is actually better for it. The story of an emotionally and mentally scarred marine seeking his supposed guardian angel after finding a photo of a woman during his tour of duty in Iraq is Zac Efron's rite of passage to his most mature role todate and guess what? he has passed with flying colours! You will feel for him whether he is struggling to find the words to express himself or just those puppy eyes of his... Kudos also to rest of the cast for rising above the threadbare plot. But the true icing on this quite yummy cake is none other than the absolutely gorgeous soundtrack which, for once , is PERFECT, coutesy of composer du jour, March Isham. Now that's one soundtrack I'm definitely getting!

He finally finds Beth, by chance (highly unlikely in real life). They, predictably, fall in love and her son Ben takes well to Logan. But there is a problem - Beth's jealous ex-husband, Keith. It was a pretty average movie all round. But truth is - no one is that good in real life, so Logan is just too good to be true. Even after saving Ben after his father Keith dies, he tells Keith's father, "I didn't save him, your son did."

In "The Lucky One", U.S Marine Sergeant Logan Thibault (Zac Efron) returns to his normal life after years of having his military service in Iraq. After losing his compatriots in the war, Logan struggles to live due to the war aftermath. A picture of a mysterious girl named Beth (Taylor Schilling) is claimed by Logan as the reason that keeps him alive under the massive attacks, while others are being sacrificed in the ravages of war. He travels across the country to search for Beth and goes through life's ups and downs with her in a tumultuous romantic relationship.
It feels awkward to watch a young, good-looking Efron, to fall deeply in love with someone who is noticeably older than him. His boyish image does not match him well with Schilling's maturity and thus audiences might be contemplating that some older and more experienced actor could replace the 25-year-old star for the lead character of Logan.
After getting through the movie, all one can recall is a lot of fantasy-like situations with physically attractive bodies and non-stop kisses between the main cast under the beautiful sunset at an American countryside.
Looking at the other aspect of the story, the plot of "The Lucky One" has the ability to move ones heart with the exploration of grief through Beth's tough experience as a single mother who has been controlled by her ex-husband.
In conclusion, Efron's 'hotness' factor does not save the movie and this Nicholas Sparks adaptation is not as good as the author's previous film adaptations due to its lack of depth in storytelling and casting choices.
