A petite, youthful, wholesome brunette actress, Sally Field is the daughter of contract player Margaret Field (a.k.a. Maggie Mahoney) and stepdaughter of stuntman-turned-actor Jock Mahoney. The native Californian got started in television, taking up where Sandra Dee and Deborah Walley left off when she assumed the role of "Gidget" in ABC's frothy sitcom adaptation that lasted a single season (1965-66).
