Fast & Furious (Super Cars Version)

What I loved most: Nice super cars in action

What I really hated: Casting not so interesting

Just watched the movie last night and i must say its quite interesting to see super cars in action. As compared to the successful Fast & Furious sequels, Redline still gets your adrenaline pumping with their slick rides and revving engine. For drift fans out there, sorry you will be disappointed coz there is not much cornering or obstacles. Casting wise, at times i feel like the actors and actresses are from the 80's era. Not forgetting, the babes are more bootylicious than the F&F series. My recommendation would be to watch this movie if you have the spare time only. Cos i feel the acting are kinda fake !!

Cinema Online's Review Back to top

Right from the start, it is clear that this movie has no sense of reality and is made up purely of the wet dreams of the target audience, pubescent males who believe that nothing in life is more important than driving fast cars and surrounding yourself with brainless, bootylicious babes.

"Redline" is very much like "The Fast And Furious" movies, but with a crucial difference: despite the similar silly storyline in both films, "Fast and Furious" is infinitely more watchable and better due to the respectable acting, clued-in directors and witty dialogue: something "Redline" is in dire need of. Other than that, it's just chock full of Viagra-fuelled fantasies, with jaw-dropping cheesy lines and some of the worst displays of tasteless female objectification. At times I couldn't help but roll my eyes as the protagonist Natasha (played by Nadja Brolin) - who is also a car enthusiast-cum-mechanic who sings in a band and loves red meat (yeah, right!) - appeared on screen with yet another outfit designed to display her ample bosom to the fullest.

The number one thing you'd hope for in a racing movie would be good racing sequences. Even then, the film couldn't fully deliver. Some scenes are executed well and others just make question marks pop up in your head. Perhaps the director thought that they could just throw bunch of scantily-clad females and exotic cars together and call it a movie. When they show the crashes involving innocent civilians, you end up feeling bad for the innocent people and start to hate the characters themselves, as nobody seems to give a damn about who they're hurting. One unbelievable scene is where a jet plane lands in the middle of the desert to drop off a passenger who demands that they "pull over", and then flies off again - just like that!

If you want a movie that is easy on the eyes, "Redline" is a case in point. Between the attractive cast and expensive sports cars, all it really ends up as is cinema eye candy. When it tries for anything else, the movie falls flat. Unlike "The Fast And Furious", which achieves some depth with the characters, this is just barefaced racing fun.

If you do indeed decide to watch this movie, remember two things: forget your conviction that women aren't objects to be owned by men, and most importantly, leave your brains at the door.
