Red cliff!

What I loved most: The war battles

What I really hated: Slightly slow pace in the middle

To be honest, I don't really know about the Romance of the three kingdom so I will start my review about the movie with no reference to the Chinese history. I have watched Daniel Lee's Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon and it is just average. I have only seen one movie based on the Romance of the three kingdom. John Woo makes his comeback as a director after so many years. I think it is worth the wait for his highly anticipated movie. The story: In Singapore, the movie is split into two parts. The second part will be shown next year. This movie is an introduction to the Romance of the three kingdom. The first war starts when the movie starts to hype up those craving to see some good war battles. After the first war, you will get introduction of the characters slowly. After the slightly slow pace, you are treated to another war. The acting is good with the humour. I think model Lin Chiling should be given some credit as she marks the first acting debut in a Chinese blockbuster. Overall: It has both the talk and the action. I must say that it is one of the recently interesting war movies with extended war battle unlike the other recent war movies. It should be good to watch it in cinema. This movie is good for those who want to know about the Chinese history or those who want to see the Chinese history in action.

A Very Good War Movie...

What I loved most: Great Battle Scene

When I first heard Red Cliff to be done into a movie last year (2007), I immediately decided that I want to watch it when it goes to the cinema. I am interested because I am a big fan of the romance of the three kingdom. I played multiple versions of the game Romance of the Three Kingdom already. After watching it, I felt that John Woo did very well in directing this movie. The overall script and the lines of the characters are very accurate i think. And that is what is most important in movies that are based from history. Actors Tony Leung, Takeshi Kaneshiro, Lin Zhi Ling lead casts of the Red Cliff however I think there is not really special about their acting. I felt that the actor that I think gave me a better impression is Zhang Fengyi, the man that portrayed Cao Cao. I think he really fit the character Cao Cao and I think he did a nice job. Zhao Wei fits her character nicely. If I can selfish a bit, I would think that Tony Leung would fit better as Zhuge Liang and Takeshi Kaneshiro as Zhou Yu. I was never bored the whole movie despite that the movie is quite long. They have great battle scenes and they managed to insert quite few good lines to make people laugh. Overall I say that this movie is very good. I think even if there is no part 1 and part 2, (if both part 1 and part 2 are merged together) I think I will still be able to stay awake and not getting bored. I think this is a good movie :)
