One of the 2 best movies from Hong Kong in 2007

What I loved most: Everything

What I really hated: Nothing

I don't know about the reviewer above who gave this movie 3 stars and complains about a lot of the things in the movie. This was either the best or second best movie out of Hong Kong in 2007. It was definitely the best role I have seen Andy Lau in in a long time. Also, it is the best acting I have ever seen from Louis Koo. Anita Yuen's short role was very well executed as well. JingChu Zhang was excellent as well. I really don't see any faults in this movie that I can remember. Maybe the reviewer above who gave it only 3 stars has never met someone addicted on hard drugs before, but trust me - they are usually a mess. Louis Koo played it very well I thought. Everyone should see this movie if they get the chance. It is interesting, intriguing, and definitely never boring.

A less soulful movies

I watched the Protege during CNY with much expectation when there were some good reviews. It was good intentions to bring along public awareness for detrimental effects on misue of drugs. But did the Director Derek Yee, thoroughly, research and collect substantial facts about opium or simply, quoted the UN statistics? It was a least important factor but the show with a pool of veteran and popular casts had failed to give in depth of the each character. And there was no intertwined in these characters which made it a less soulful story. Partly, the film editing team should be blamed. What remarkable was perhaps, Zhang who portrayed a single-mother, gave us a lonely outlook or spirited deprive on the abuse of heroine. Contrastly, Louis Koo's drug-addict image created giggles among some crowd and was a bit frivolous for the role.

Best Singapore Film in Singapore

What I loved most: Great Acting scenes by Daniel Wu and Andy Lau

What I really hated: little fight scene

It seems that local production house has produced a memorable film (singapore made) to date. I am not talking about jack neo films (4D or gambling related). That jack neo's films are more singaporean orientated type of films that is difficult for all overseas people to understand or translate to. Ok back to film. Great acting by Andy Lau, looks like he has polished all his skills and emotions to put him at the top of the list of hongkong actors. Daniel Wu's acting has improved tremendously, but needs some more work to reached the stratosphere of hongkong actor's award.Perhaps he is taking a leaf out of Andy lau book. Louis koo's druggie look was great and very detailed. The storyline of hongkong drug dealers and undercover cop is old but with a new twist, more emphasis on acting scenes, interaction between characters. If they can add a little fight scenes to keep my attention moving. But my wish that film executives/producer could add some more scenes of singapore not just the airport walkway. This could promoted an anti drug promotion .just thinking

Stunning Jing Chu

The Protege has indeed uncovered a real gem (Zhang Jing Chu). Not only is she a babe, she can really act. Unfortunately certain scenes are edited. Overall a nice movie.
