Expectations were slightly raised seeing that it's based on a Liao Zhao story. We were hoping to watch beautiful visuals, super awesome fighting scenes & sudden "ghost/spirit" scenes.
None of that.
The movie moves at snail's pace, with not even a raised heart-beat.
I guess what the movie really intends to capture is the Confucian themes of love, hatred & goodness of people/spirit alike.

What I loved most: Fox's eyes - very alluring and sad
What I really hated: everything else
The undecisive general was such a drag. Viki's(general's wife) good acting did not really help much. Ultimately i think the original liao zhai version was much better. There was not enough character development on the fox spirit, chamelon and the sad swordsman(who tried really hard to be funny but did not really make it). And whats with the fox spirit going all wormy under the skin? Hello... ? Isn't she a fox spirit not a worm spirit? Could have made a better effort in the special effects - one which made more sense.

What I loved most: the story
What I really hated: kung fu
At first I thought if they are going to make a kung fu movie out of this traditional chinese horror love story. In the end the love story part seem to prevail. most of the female leads acting in this movie is good. nowadays it is quite annoying when they try to make action movies out of every kind of plot.

What I loved most: Love Zhao Wei in this movie
What I really hated: too little 'painted skin' thrills
Worth to go to the cinema to watch this movie rather than buying those pirated unclear vision DVD version. All the China ladies are very good actress. Zhao Wei really is a good actress and can act in almost all roles and movies! Thumbs up for this hong kong movie, worth your money spent in the theatre!
