People say that money is king and that money can buy happiness. Some might go as far as to say that money makes the world go round. So what happens when we don't have money? We get mad and go mad while doing so.

"Mad Money" is a mild crime comedy about three women who rob the Federal Reserve Bank. With a line-up like Diane Keaton, Katie Holmes and Queen Latifah, one would expect a movie that is mildly entertaining, mindless and for the lack of a better word, ordinary. That is exactly what you should expect, nothing less and nothing more. The heist in itself was interesting at first but not enough to keep the film going.

The three leading ladies show audiences what 'girl power' is all about. A spoiled suburbanite, a single mother and a flaky Jackie (she's like a dumb blonde, only that she's a brunette) pulls off a sneaky heist on the Federal Reserve Bank, which is apparently impossible to rob because someone's always watching every one, every where, every minute. In theory, the idea seems like an original one but on screen, it just seems like an all-female version of "Ocean's Eleven". One could go far enough and say it's borderline juvenile a la "Sugar and Spice".

The only saving grace is the opportunity to see Katie Holmes stuffing worn out dollar bills into her undies. Oh, and did I mention that Diane Keaton and Queen Latifah are in this movie? Well, all three leading ladies did exactly what they are good at and what they were paid to do. To pretend to be either spoiled, tough or ditzy. The script on the other hand, was nothing more than average. There will be sporadic laughter but ultimately, the film doesn't succeed in falling into the comedy genre. It is truly a waste of an A-list cast.

When all is said and done, "Mad Money" does succeed in keeping one entertained, even if it's mildly so. It's one of those films that you watch if "Cloverfield" and "American Gangster" are sold out. Great way to help pass the time but do leave your expectations at the door.
