Critically-acclaimed director Clint Eastwood returns with this film about J. Edgar Hoover, the face of law enforcement in America for almost 50 years. Focusing on his career as the FBI director from the Palmer Raids onwards, it depicts how many see J. Edgar, a man to be feared and admired, reviled and revered. But the movie also shows what many do not see, that behind closed doors, he held secrets that would have destroyed his image, his career and his life as an alleged closeted (and chaste) homosexual.
J Edgar is a terrific movie. The movie is about the FBI and the Power of just one man and his obsession with protecting America. People in power can never be satisfied with the power they have. J Edgar tells us about politics and politicians, activists and the underdogs. He was obsessed with protecting his great America or rather he used that as an excuse to do what he did. For 48 years, he was director of FBI and systematically and meticulously collected data of so many people which is tantamount to abusing his power. He could arrest and banish anyone who he claimed were communists. And yet, his own secret life was never discovered, till probably after his death. J Edgar is feared, not only by activists and ordinary people but also by every president of the United States. He lived long enough to serve 4 presidents, or rather nearly 4 presidents. President Nixon was happy to announce his death. Great movie.

J. Edgar Hoover, revolutionary FBI director, institutionalized police forensics(ie thumbprint records and crime scene investigation). He transformed FBI into America's most feared and admired law enforcement agency. But he is a human who was not perfect after all.
