Movie Plot Back to top

Picking up right where the first film left off, Laurie is taken to the hospital after supposedly killing the man who was responsible for the deaths of several people in the town of Haddonfield, Illinois. However, her stay at Haddonfield General becomes very brief when a very much alive Michael appears once more, brutally murdering everyone in the hospital to find his sister. Michael disappears, and Laurie survives the infamous Halloween massacre, but is still haunted by it years later. Laurie struggles to come to terms with her dark past but the supposedly dead Hobo Myers has other plans, and as the anniversary of his massacre approaches, he returns to Haddonfield once more, with a family reunion planned that Laurie will never forget.

Cinema Online's Review Back to top

Once upon a time, Rob Zombie's prequel - remake of John Carpenter's 1978's "Halloween" received commendation from fans for great reimagining and visuals, and was a success at the box office. So instead of another reimagining of Carpenter's 1981's "Halloween II", he chose to create his own storyline, centering on Laurie Strode, a year after her terrible ordeal.

It started out appealing. Similar to a Norwegian horror sequel called "Cold Prey 2", gruesome act of violence perpetrated by the notorious Mike Myers echoes throughout the hospital building, and you will see all kinds of killing one can do with an emergency axe unbeknownst to man. And you feel your heart racing together with poor Laurie as she runs away from her stalker 'slash' murderer (pun intended).

The first 30 minutes feels like all money's worth. But somehow from the middle until the end, Zombie might have suffered some kind of creative halt or directorial laziness because all that heart pumping screaming frenzy ended with boring death, one after another. It was neither artsy nor even drop dead gory. Even the stripper's death feels like a waste, and that the actress should do indie films rather than make us yawn while she overdramatically dies in the nude.

Similar to Asian economic graph of 1998, the movie plunged down to absolute oblivion. If not for gigantic Tyler Mane in a Mike Myers mask or the occasional black humor, one will be advised to leave this one out.

Watch this if you love Michael Myers - the killer, not the spy who shagged you.
