So So Only

What I loved most: The Ending Twist

What I really hated: Thwe Actress are motionless like no feeling at all.

I watched it yesterday by accident. I think it worth it. Not really horror movie. FYI this review are based on me that knowledge of this movie totally zero.(As I said I watched it by accident not knowing what the story about.) So will be little biased. If you have certain expectation maybe this rating are different especially if you have played the game. For better enjoyment of this movie you are better not expect anything or imagine what will happened. There really got me is the ending twist. This tory is based on the Game Siren which I also don't know wat is it about. The story are little bit messy. But after the ending I realize there is not so complicated. I leave the cinema with this question. Does the villagers are really live in longevity? And the doctor? Does the main actress infected already(for sure she infected already)? The actual question is how was she been infected? .

Cinema Online's Review Back to top

Ichikawa Yui of "Ju-On" fame is back with another eerie thriller. It's the movie version of a well-known Play Station game, Forbidden Siren.

The story starts off with an incident in 1976 on the island of Yamijima in Japan where residents disappear with the sound of sirens. This is usually during stormy nights when the seawater turns red. The only survivor, who has gone insane, had refused to reveal anything except a warning: When the siren sounds, never go out.

29 years later, the village is back at peace with new residents moving in, and the incident becomes a legend to all. Amamoto Yuki (Ichikawa Yui), who is deeply attached to her sickly brother Hideo (Nishiyama Jun) after their mother's death, settles on the island together with her freelance writer father, Shinichi (Leo Morimoto). They have come to find a new place for Hideo's physiotherapy treatment.

They are guided by a doctor, Minamidaby (Naoki Tanaka), who also happens to be Hideo's doctor. Also, she gets help from a neighbour. This is when she gets warnings to 'never go out at night', 'never go near the steel tower', and most of all 'when the siren sounds, never go out'. She starts feeling uneasy after strange things begin to happen to her father and brother, and it gets worse when she actually hears the sound of sirens!

Director Yukihiko Tsutsumi gets us at the edge of our seat when he combines the scenes and the sound effects, leaving the movie with an eerie feeling till the end. The scenes of the strange and native religion, the mysterious words on the walls, the unearthly rhythm of the native songs, the deserted streets, the mysterious girl in a red dress, and not forgetting the emotionless faces of the residents on the island (and if there is any, it would be freaky smiles). These all add up to a creepy movie, especially with the music and sound effects.

Ichikawa Yui might not look scary in this movie, unlike in "Ju-On", but she is convincing as the sweet-and-pretty looking Yuki. Nishiyama Jun does a good job as her sick brother who is unable to talk. The cast support Yui well throughout the movie, making it an enjoyment to watch.

The plot moves smoothly in the beginning, giving a brief history of the incidents, and later moves slowly to the present time, where the secrets are slowly revealed. It comes to a twist at the end, and ends in a short and vague way. Maybe it is the hook for a sequel?

This is a must-watch movie for those who like psychological thrillers. Just sit back and get into the 'game' without your controller in hand.
