A parody on the making of an independent movie and its cast who become victims of the dreaded awards buzz. A debut feature director Jay Berman steers his cast and crew through a typically tumultuous independent film titled, "Home for Purim," an intimate period drama about a Jewish family's turbulent reunion on the occasion of the dying matriarch's favourite holiday. When Internet-generated rumours begin circulating that three of the film's stars may be giving Award-worthy performances, a rumble of excitement rattles the cast.

I was struggling to stay awake throughout the movie. This humour is too western-subtle for me to laugh till my stomach hurt. Partly, i was having a tiring afternoon. However, the caucasians who were in the same cinema had their outbursts. This movie's suited for bored young adults, people involved in the media, senior citizens who enjoy sitcomes and i guess that's it. Watching this movie, i came upon several faces that i find very familiar. You may want to watch it to spot some faces that you might have come across on teevee or on other movies.
"For Your Consideration" starts off with debut feature director Jay Bergman (Christopher Guest) as he marshals his cast and crew through an independent film called "Home For Purim". The movie (within a movie) is an intimate period drama about a Jewish family's turbulent reunion on the dying matriarch's favourite holiday.
During the production, a rumour starts to circulate that someone in the cast has done an award-winning performance. The rumour slowly circulates on the Internet and then into the backstage of the production. This sets the whole cast and crew in a frenzy of excitement.
The main characters in "Home for Purim" are faded luminary Marilyn Hack (Catherine O'Hara), journeyman actor and former hot dog pitchman Victor Allan Miller (Harry Shearer), and ingenue Callie Webb (Parker Posey). The situation gets worse when a television show starts rolling with the rumour and anchors Chuck Porter (Fred Willard) and Cindy Martin (Jane Lynch) infect the entire production with award fever.
This then leads to publicist Corey Taft (John Michael Higgins), talent agent Morley Orfkin (Eugene Levy), and producer Whitney Taylor Brown (Jennifer Coolidge) smelling the sudden potential for a sleeper hit. The mix takes another spin when Sunfish Classics President Martin Gibb (Ricky Gervais) decides to make changes to the film to reach a wider audience. Meanwhile, the screenwriters, Lane Iverson (Michael McKean) and Philip Koontz (Bob Balaban), watch in horror as their first film adaptation turns into a monster.
I really enjoyed this film. It is really quite funny and while most movies have moments, this film managed to keep me interested till the end. The numerous cameos by guest stars provided extra value to the film and help to give it a slight Hollywood shine.
The film is shot in a 'mockumentary' format, using the buzz behind the scenes and cutting to different news reports. It is a very interesting technique. This gives the film the edge it needs to take its comedy a little further.
The scriptwriting is top notch too, giving the movie a re-watch value. Some of the gags are so funny, they keep you constantly looking for the next laugh. Most comedies are blatant and slapstick but the script and screenplay of "For Your Consideration" are cerebral enough for the more discerning viewers.
"For Your Consideration" has enough sparks to make it an entertaining effort. However, don't believe the rumour.
