Based on a 2005 novel by Jonathan Safran Foer, "Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close" tells the story of 9-year-old Oskar Schell (Horn), who lives in New York City with his parents. He spends a lot of his time with his father, playing a game called Reconnaissance Mission. However, Oskar's comes crashing down when loses his father (Hanks) in the terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001, as his father was on the 105th floor of the south tower of the World Trade Center at the time and dies in the collapse. Subsequently, Oskar goes on a journey across New York to find a lock-box to which his father had left the key to discover what it is that his father meant for him to find.
What I loved most: Great acting and storyline
What I really hated: Definitely Not a feel good movie
This is definitely not a family movie or a feel good movie. The acting is superb and both Thomas Horn and Sandra Bullock's incredible talent will definitely strike a sympathetic cord in the viewer's hearts. Thomas Horn's character, Oskar Schell, is highly complicated and I found it hard to like him even though I was rooting for him because he's not exactly your typical innocent 9 year old but his story is so tragic that its not possible to dislike him either. As a whole, he and Sandra bullock did a splendid job portraying their roles with perfect frailty. This is a highly difficult film that requires a lot of scrutinising and I found that I could only breathe properly again after the movie. The general atmosphere after the movie is highly somber and solemn so if you're looking for an easy lighthearted movie, this movie is not for you. I honestly loved the movie and it is definitely Oscar worthy but I will not watch it again anytime soon cause it was really kinda depressing. But still, definitely a must watch!
