great movie of the year

What I loved most: awesome plot

What I really hated: nothing

This is an awesome movie with great plots. Despite twists, it makes you follow the storyline well and not confused with clear directions. Shia Lebeouf is a great actor and brought out the fear and despair of the protagonist. Even though I knew about the whole story way before watching, it was still a good movie as it has great cinematography.

Cinema Online's Review Back to top

What happens when the technology that surrounds us today, that we love and depend on, turn out to be a life-threatening force ... and worse, for it to spiral completely out of control? This was the idea that popped into Executive Producer Steven Spielberg's head when he produced this race-against-time thriller called "Eagle Eye". The latest non-stop actioner from Spielberg also reunites director D.J. Caruso and budding actor Shia LaBeouf since their last venture in "Disturbia" (2007). Since this one promised to have so much more action than the last movie they did together, you'd be tempted to think that you'll be on a thrilling roller coaster ride, especially if you're a fan of this genre of films.

However, despite the impressive trailer, "Eagle Eye" turns out pretty ordinary instead. Admittedly, it is breathtaking but it is also shallow. By that, I mean you can sink into your chair and relax, drifting yourself through the movie effortlessly. It doesn't require any intense thinking and it is rather predictable, even though you might enjoy it.

Aside from "Transformers" and "Indiana Jones" boy wonder Shia, the movie sees the line-up of some pretty big names like Michelle Monaghan, Billy Bob Thornton and Rosario Dawson. However, if you are expecting something from these stars, then you might end up leaving the hall speechless and frustrated. The acting doesn't leave an impact to the storyline. It is an overly simple, corny and mediocre performance from the cast.

So what's left of the movie to look out for? Technology, Pentagon, terrorists, weapons and of course a major explosion or two may invite curiosity but some will see it as a trap, since the trailer looks so awesome. It's not an outstanding piece but it is entertaining enough to quench your thirst for an action-thriller flick. It's a movie that's worth it for a one-off viewing.
