Kat Goh's directorial debut brings you the warm and funny family drama in the year of the Dragon. As one of the 12 Chinese Zodiac, Dragon is a symbol of prosperity in the eyes of the Chinese. The movie tells the story of Mother Loong who desires to have a grandchild despite all of her children are not in the plan to be parents yet. Twists and turns happen in the Loong's family when they found a newborn baby on their doorstep.

What I loved most: Chubby Baby

What I really hated: confuse for storyline

believed only lovely cuty baby have lightened this movie instead, hmm, maybe DVD will do instead of going inside cinema to watch instead. kind of meangless story, but lovely cuty baby really very very cute n adorable, especially seeing him smile n laugh lol.

It is very funny, the baby is cute and auntie Lucy is very funny. I love the part where the old lady trying to email the god about her wish.

What I loved most: the movie ended

What I really hated: with not 'likeful' actor & actress in the show

As expected, this movie is not nice partly becos of 'unpopular' or so-called 'likeful' actor & actress and the radio kept advertising as though they thought that every movie promoted thru air (or by that DJ cos he is in the show) will become box office show, wake up plz! Don't waste your $ & time!

It is almost heartbreaking to say that Kat Goh's directorial debut fizzled out almost as soon as it began, at least in Malaysia. Singapore has a wealth of comedic acting talent, but writers put too much faith in their commercial clout, allowing the script to meander on by itself like a harnessed horse without reins.

This explains why writers Kelvin Tong and Marcus Chin as well as Kat Goh thought that they could put all these stars in the same movie, hoping that their combined star power will prove to be enough to entice people who do not go for these kinds of movies to the multiplexes. Make no mistake, the stars may not be as well-known as actor-comedians Jack Neo and Mark Lim, but they are equally renowned in their respective fields, such as Aunty Lai Meng, a Malaysian veteran with over 50 years worth of acting experience; Melvin Sia, Malaysia's television drama prince who received a Best Actor award in 2010's Golden Awards; Kym Ng, a celebrated Singaporean host and Dennis Chew, a popular Singaporean radio DJ-actor.

Last year's "Magic To Win" and "Petaling Street Warriors" are a few of the titles that adhere to this template. Now, Goh's latest can be added to their numbers, for it is an over-the-top heartwarming comedy about a family of three who are born in the year of the Dragon, save for their brother Ah Loong (Melvin Sia), which is also the reason why the matriarch, Mother Loong (Aunty Lai Meng), is desperate for a grandson, as only a boy born in the year of the Dragon can inherit the family business troupe.

A baby soon appears on their doorstep, as a gift from God, which everyone takes to, save for the Loong's family relatives, who are eager to inherit the troupe in order to develop the land that houses it into a housing estate. Needless to say, the baby's appearance horrifies them, and in scenes strikingly reminiscent of "Petaling Street Warriors", attempts to steal baby hairs in place of a scroll soon takes place, as the scheming relatives are determined to prove that the baby is not of the Loong's bloodline. Coupled with a gambling addict who stumbles into the Loongs' lives, "Dance Dance Dragon" has the makings of a good family comedy.

Yet that does not prevent the movie from stumbling over its loose threads. The scene where an unfortunate incident befalls Mother Loong is one such example of events that happen out of a sudden that are then left unexplained. Another is Lucy's relationship with her boyfriend Mahendran, which is only briefly shown. In actuality, Goh's movie had a serious point to make about the importance of family relationships and that having a baby is not something to be feared as Singaporeans are known to have an aversion to having babies. Yet that seems to have got lost in transit among all the Singaporean jokes, which seem to be ad-libbed. Thankfully, these jokes become the saving grace of the movie, as it brings welcome characterisation to otherwise one-dimensional characters by exhibiting the excellent chemistry found between its actors.

The cinematography barely helps, cutting from scene to scene without having any relation to the one before. There is a very hurried pacing to the editing as it tries to bring resolution to the maximum number of characters in the 93-minute timespan, but ends up leaving a bigger hole than before.

In conclusion, "Dance Dance Dragon" feels more like a debut effort than ever, and not in a good way. There is a certain pleasure to be derived from watching a group of comedy veterans play it for laughs, but it soon withers into a superficial family comedy that plumps for light laughs over deeper insights. "Dance Dance Dragon" is also available in 2D in Singapore, but it is hardly worth the price.
