Chris Carter followed an unlikely path to end up as the creator, executive producer and foremost writer of "The X-Files" (Fox, 1993-2002), easily one of the most fervently regarded cult series of 1990s TV. Although he has come to specialize in often grisly stories of UFOs, alien abductions, mutants and other paranormal happenings, Carter learned his craft working on sunnier family fare at Walt Disney Studios. While Carter claims he spent his twenties laying about on the beach, he also found time to work as a freelance journalist while traveling extensively abroad. Carter began his entertainment career in 1985 when his future wife passed a screenplay he had written on to her boss, Jeffrey Katzenberg, then with Walt Disney Studios.
