Hollywood Worthy....

Have to admit, I went to the Charity Gala not knowing what to expect.... I wasn't someone who would normally go into the movie theatre to watch a local Singaporean production... But for "Cages", I would strongly recommend you to watch it. We can feel the sincerity of the production team.... the story line was very touching... not only does it make us want to find out what happened (and what is going to happen next)... but it makes us ponder upon our own lives... upon the decisions that we made... about how we should appreciate what we have and learn see things from a broader perspective to get a clearer picture os certain situations.... We were lucky to get an intro during the Charity Premier hosted by Beatrice Chia Richmond. I was already touched by the messages... by the fact that the film fulfilled so many dreams.... the dream of a visually impaired boy to be acting in a movie... the dream of the executive producer... the dream of his son... the dream of the script writed & director.... YES, I WAS TOTALLY BOUGHT OVER. These are the people with dreams & who went ahead to pursue these dreams... I really admire them. Many practical ones would have given up their dreams for something more "realistic".... the bz ones would be so distracted by their daily livelihood that they forgot to go after their dreams.... So... go watch the movie.... share the dream... fly with "Cages".

A film to see, a film to remember.

What I loved most: Story, acting, cinematography.

What I really hated: Didn't get to meet all of the actors

I had the pleasure of attending the Premiere Gala of Cages last night (12 March 07) and I was utterly and pleasantly surprised. It was like a big studio quality film that had all the distinctive qualities of a local independent film. The acting by Miss Kheng Hua (who I had no expectations about since I only know her as a TV actress) blew me away!! As it did most of the fellow attendees sitting around me. She has now become one of my top 3 favorite Singaporean actresses. Mako who played her father should win an Oscar for his performance. I felt so close to him that I can’t stop tearing up at the thought that this is his last major performance before his passing. The story was so touching and made such a strong impact on me. I strongly recommend this film to anyone who has a desire to see a great international film with not only a strong message but is set in the beautiful locations of Singapore.

Excellent Film

Very strong performances by Mako Iwamatsu, KhengHua Tan, and Dickson Tan. Like Lost In Translation did for Japan (with US audiences), Cages displays a compelling, flattering, and familiar portrait of Singapore, between the quintessential harsh city life, and the quieter, quaint neighborhood where the estranged family is reunited. The simplicity of the story is the strength - the family's reluctance to understand why they have been apart for so many years is moving. Dickson Tan's performance as a young blind boy and his interactions with Mako are a thing of beauty - a very nice story to watch unfold. Joel Howard Los Angeles, CA
