- 1997: Helmed "Apt Pupil", an adaptation of a Stephen King novella; first collaboration with actors Ian McKellen and Bruce Davison; another childhood friend Brandon Boyce scripted
- 1995: Produced and directed labyrinthine crime thriller "The Usual Suspects", written by McQuarrie
- 1993: Feature directing debut "Public Access"; also co-scripted with childhood pal Christopher McQuarrie
- 1979: Began making films at age 13; some films (including "Lion's Den") featured actor Ethan Hawke (date approximate)
