A burly redhead, Brendan Gleeson first gained notice as Haimish, one of the mates of Mel Gibson's William Wallace in the Oscar-winning epic "Braveheart" (1995). But the actor had already amassed an impressive resume. A Dublin native, Gleeson had harbored a desire to perform as a child, and began by appearing in local plays and concerts. At age 18, he even briefly spent time as a street musician.
