Movie Plot Back to top

Jenny (Carey Mulligan) is a bright 17-year-old girl who finds herself in a whirlwind romance with a much older David (Peter Sarsgaard). Prior to meeting David, Jenny was trying to excel in her life by going through prep school to get into Oxford. However, once she sees the lifestyle David can provide, she is hooked and thoughts of Oxford goes out the window. Then, when things are looking pretty good for Jenny with the dashing David, the truth hits her like a ton of bricks. Jenny goes from being a bright eyed school girl to a sophisticated young lady and then all the way back to questioning if she really knows who she is at all.

Emotionally engaging, especially for 12th graders

What if... you have 2 choices that will change your life forever? One, go to Oxford University, gain a degree and have a successful life in the future. Two, marry a man you love so much and have a happily-ever-after life that you've been craving for. Which one do you choose? This is the main idea of the film 'An Education', a movie that is currently (and unfortunately) playing in just one screen in Singapore. As a senior high school student, I found this film very engaging, very exciting to watch. The emotion of the movie as a whole really engage the audience into the emotional drive of a coming-of-age tale. This is one hell of a movie that surprised me by storm. Simply original, beautiful and engaging. A movie that every senior high school student should watch... and those who are applying to Oxford University for the fall 2010 semester :)
