The action-packed tale takes place in a world parallel to our own where a community of fully mobile rag dolls lives. Then, a mechanical beast attacks 2 rag dolls as they scavenge the ruins of their world. After witnessing the death of his mentor "5" (Reilly), "9" (Wood) must confront the terror. With the help of the conflicted but resilient community including "1" (Plummer) a domineering war veteran, "2" (Landau) an aged inventor, "6" (Glover) a visionary and artist, and "7" (Connelly) a brave warrior - "9" hope to destroy the creature and steal the talisman of trapped souls that it carries.
