Touching movie

What I loved most: Stunning costumes and getai scenes

What I really hated: Hokkien mixed with Singlish

Initially thought what sort of movie it would be, ended up it was pretty touching in the final parts of the movie (not too much spoiler here). Narrative in the sense, it is seen from the eyes of Qi Yu Wu who plays a deaf-mute in the show. You would see getai in a difference sense, and coming next year, when the Hungry Ghost Festival nears, I'm sure the main thing that comes up is 881.

Not so bad laaaa...

What I loved most: Visuals - colourful costumes, over-the-top acting of the getai set, the use of Hokkien

What I really hated: The 'supernatural' effects makes it unreal, like an anime or cartoon.

It has a bitter-sweet ending, somewhat of a tragi-comedy and I cried buckets. Any chinese movie worth its salt should always tug at the heart strings! It was an eye-opener to those not privy to the getai culture. Although the plot got a little incredible in places, the innocence of the players were fairly compelling. Just felt that the narration could have been a little less melancholic.
