Beautiful Battle Effects!

What I loved most: The "Matrix-Like" Battle Scenes!

What I really hated: The Ending Part

At first before i watch the movie..i read the reviews here..the reviews seems promising so i decided to give this movie a go. True enough, this is an excellent movie. Fight till the last man. Mostly i would think guys would love this show but i'm not sure if girls would enjoy it as much as the guys.

Ballet of Blood and Glory of Spartans!

What I loved most: Slow Mo + Fast Action Battle Scenes

What I really hated: Strange creatures in the Persian Army

300 is one hell of a war epic, a spectacular visual feast for the eyes and senses with the art of blood splatter taken to new heights. When King Leonidas is asked to pay his respects to King Xerxes and honour him as King of all Kings/ God of all Gods or face elimination by his massive army to all of Sparta and Greece. Not only did Leonidas refuse to yield, he promptly returns a message of defiance and incurs the wrath of Xerxes. He consults the Ephors and Oracle who warns him of mass destruction if Sparta ever goes to war. The council without knowledge of a traitor in its midst, concurs and forbade him from fighting the Persians. Believing in his own destiny, Leonidas left his wife and son to fight for freedom with a selected group of 300 Spartans. We follow the 300 Spartans who were joined by an army of 700 Arcadians (Thespians & Slaves) to make a last stand at "The Hot Gates" where the passageway is narrow and favour to their numeral disadvantage. Battle scenes were intense and stylish with each thrust of the spear impaling bodies in a combination of slow-motion and fast-forward camera speeds. Imagine blood droplets hanging in mid-sequence while limbs are sliced through the air. Head decapitation is even more graphic in a ballet of squirting blood vessels. On the homefront, we see Queen Gorgo's valiant attempts to rally the treacherous Theron to her side and convince the Council to send reinforcements to her husband. The Queen's determination and self-sacrificial acts are matched by the Spartans' discipline, superior fighting techniques and combat strategies. Armed with their javelin-like spears, sword and shield, they were killing everything in their path without fear nor mercy, absorbing waves of attacks and holding the enemy for 3 days with body count piling up like bricks in the background. However, they cannot hold on any longer when a local Shepherd, Ephialtes betrayed them and lead the Persian troops to an old sheep path around the hot gates. Sensing a final showdown, Leonidas sent an injured Dilios back as a storyteller to regale their tale of victory. Although the 300 Spartans and King Leonidas perished - their honour, valour and sacrifice unite the whole of Greece against the Persian army. The cries of "This is SPARTA" still rings in my ears.

A Suicide or A Sacrifice?

It was all great from the start. The heroism and unity (among the 300) was portrayed splendidly with all the stunning visuals. However, there were some unrealistic visual scene and an un-heroic ending. The part where hes head was beheaded by the sword, there wasnt a gush of blood spuritng out of the neck. As we all know, blood in our veins are in high pressure. The ending part where they were surrounded top to bottom could have been a better sacrifice if they were to remain in their joint semi-hemisphere shield, instead of exposing themselves to clear-danger, the arrows. If they enemies approach them, they could easily kill them by using their spears. Tuck together till the king was in clear sight from enemies, only then should they go for their primary target, the evil king. The narrator who is the one-eyed spartan who was asked to leave the battefield.. How does he know what happened during the last few mins of 300 when all of the cliffs and ground were filled with enemies. How can he narrate something which he didnt see. The only part which im frustrated about 300 was the suicide-way of ending the history. Although they died for the kingdom of greece, i doubt they died in glory.

Artistically Virtual Treat

What I loved most: Super-CGI scenes

I had watched Gerard Butler in the Phantom of Opera who portrayed an eccentric, inferior-complex or senic musician. Then, I was not mesmerized by his singing... However, he delievered well in the role of Spartan King Leonidas as a dauntless figure who led his men for a ferocious and un-comprising battle. Well , it was an expected tragic ending as what 'prepare for glory' implied. Even though it was not historical accountable for which based on the adaptation of Frank Miller's comic, the stunning visual effects made it sensual and worth watching. But I felt the overly blood splattering scenes which empahsized on the battles might have dampened the 'cool-ness' of this movie. Let us look forward for adaptation of Frank Miller's, Sin City 2.
